Whether you are a runner or not, the annual Lost Dutchman Marathon is an exciting event for the Gold Canyon and Apache Junction Arizona area. This year the event falls on Sunday, February 15th, 2009 (President’s Day weekend). It is the eighth annual event. The Saturday before the race includes an all day Expo event, followed with an evening pasta dinner. Sunday includes a pre-race campfire for the runners. There are race day events regardless of whether you are a serious runner or only want to walk and enjoy the day and the event. There is a half marathon, 8k, 10k, 2k Family Fun Run/Walk.This event a non-profit event put together by local 501(c) 3 The Lost Dutchman Marathon, Inc. All workers and board members are volunteers. Race day proceeds go towards funding scholarships and other youth programs.
This event brings runners from all over the country and also some international ones. The marathon follows a USATF-certified course and can be used as a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Check out the official marathon website for more information.
