The large number of foreclosed homes in the Phoenix Arizona — both in Maricopa and Pinal Counties — is creating a bigger problem for abandoned pools. Pools that remain filled, but are not maintained end up turning green. Green pools breed West Nile Virus. It is simple to treat the problem with chemicals, but in abandoned homes there is no one taking care of the problem most times.
With the weather getting warmer this problem is one no one wants to let get out of control. If you spot a green pool in a community report it.
Here is contact information for the departments in both Pinal County and Maricopa County Arizona to deal with green pools.
- If the home with a green pool is in Maricopa County you can report it on line — click to the Department of Public Health and Environmental Services Department website.
- If the home with a green pool is in Pinal County call Pinal County’s mosquito hotline 1-866-287-0209 extension 6200 or 520-866-6200.
With summer coming let’s all be on the lookout for this problem.
